Greetings in the Name of the Risen One,

“All shall be well, all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.” –Julian of Norwich
Even when it’s hard to hope for–
Especially when it’s hard to accept–
The Immanuel’s prayer, the God-with-Us’s promise, is that, “I speak in the world so that you may have my joy made complete among yourselves.” (John 17.13)
It’s together that Joy is manifest. For those that this time of year, or right now is difficult, there is a Blue Christmas service 7pm next Friday, 18th. All are Welcome.
This week Young People’s Worship at St. Mary’s Road United Church has Nursery, Tots, Elementary Kids, Jr. Cafe, and Sr. Youth Group. We’re encouraging children in our young people’s worship to bring a non-perishable food item as their “offering.” Food items this week will be donated to West Broadway Community Ministry—they are currently particularly low on soups, peanut butter, tuna/salmon, canned vegetables and fruit and breakfast foods. We’re also singing Christmas carols downstairs at around 10 am.
“Unto us a Child is born… and we will call His name…” (Isaiah 9)In biblical days names meant something. They didn’t just come up with trendy names or popular names. They would give a name to a child. Tree of Life will examine the names Jesus is called by and the reasons behind them.
In our Journey worship season of Advent we continue to pay special attention to music as a vehicle and vessel of our faith, feelings, and experiences. This week we use music to enthuse Joy. “A cheerful heart is good medicine” (Prov 17.22a). The ways we receive, offer, and express, joy are important. They are essential in healthy relationships: with nature, community, and God. We’ll be exploring this in worship this week (We also hope to have a laugh. If you’ve got a good clean joke, you might want to bring that in your back pocket.).
Worship starts at 10:15 and all are welcome! Or come a bit earlier for Fair Trade Coffee.
We look forward to seeing you!

Shalom, Salaam, Shanti, Béke, Peace,
Alice & Philip

The Pastoral Care Team is so grateful to all the donations! We are also asking for your help with delivery of these gift packages on Sunday December 13th.

Calling all Woodwind and Brass Players to join our Christmas Eve band!
All ages and abilities welcome.
We will practice our Carols each Sunday after church in the Journey Sanctuary for about half an hour (11:30 until 12:00) starting this Sunday. If you don’t have your instrument this Sunday, please still let me know that you plan to join us. I can give you the music if you’d like to practice at home.–Twila

The West Broadway Community Ministry Christmas Team is hoping SMRUC would be able to collect mitts and hats this year. Last year we included scarves in that, but we are pretty well set for scarves. This year we are hoping that SMRUC could supply us with 60 pairs of unisex mitts and 20 to 25 men’s hats (clotheslines will be up in both sanctuaries).
