We’ve said before that the Fly and Camel Café is nothing if not eclectic. In the last six months we’ve gone from singer-songwriter Jeffery Straker to the flamenco dance and guitar duo of Maritel Centurión and Philippe Meunier to the cool urban sound of Rayannah and her loop pedals. And now
we’re getting ready for one of southern Manitoba’s most popular country bands, Just a Coincidence.
Just a Coincidence is fronted by singer and piano player Gérald St-Laurent. Here’s what Gerry says about music and his band: ‘Country music has been an inspiration for as long as I can remember. As a young boy singing classic country was way cooler than any new stuff on the radio! I took a liking to the piano and taught myself chords and scales. Over the past five years I have decided to lead my own group called “Just a Coincidence.” This new adventure has brought me to the mic singing the old classics. I love singing and playing and touching hearts with songs that inspire me every day.’
Gerry includes Merle Haggard, John Denver, Randy Travis and Garth Brooks among his favourite singers.
All proceeds from this edition of the Fly and Camel Café will go to Justine’s Orphan Fund. Justine Kiwanuka is a longtime member of St. Mary’s Road United Church; the fund supports the education of an extended family of orphaned children and youth in Uganda.
