Dear Friends of Christ,

Today is Maundy Thursday of Holy Week. It is the day that remembers Jesus washing the feet of the disciples. In a time of self-isolation and social distancing it is hard to imagine what ministry will look like going forward. This intimate offer, has down through the ages reminded us of the need for service and connection. We also remember that this was also the occasion that Jesus gave us the great commandment: “Love one another as I have loved you.”

So we will continue to find new ways to love another in the time of Covid 19.

Tomorrow’s joint Good Friday service with UCiM can be found here (it will be activated 10am): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nm4DsImejkQ&feature=youtu.be

Our Easter Service will be posted to our YouTube Channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaVx4LJzHN9J6dtYlpvF0Zg/featured?disable_polymer=1

Attention kids and kids at heart!

I picked up our palm fronds and have put them in a box outside of the St. Mary’s Road door (north entrance to the Tree of Life Sanctuary). Although Palm Sunday is passed, there are lots of crafts you can do with them. Below are some challenges and I’d love to see what you come up with!

“But you will be fishers of people”

Early Christian symbol was the fish (Ichthys Symbolic meaning ΙΧΘΥΣ (ichthys), acrostic for Iēsous Christos, Theou Yios, Sōtēr; which translates into English as ‘Jesus Christ, Son of God, [Our] Savior’:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOfh76mqfLk

When I got back from Sabbatical I had a great conversation with Patrick Woodbeck and passed on the appreciation of his mid-week reflections. He accepted my request to keep them coming. (see Thursdays reflection below)

In these unprecedented times we look to you to get involved in ways that you may not have before.  Having an active YouTube account will help us stay connected. If you are able and willing to record yourself or your family saying prayers, singing doing crafts etc, we’d love it.

If you have particular skills in curating and editing we’d love to hear from you too!

Grace and peace,

Phil

Happy Thursday,

I have been thinking this week about the journey of Jesus and his followers throughout the course of Holy Week. We passed Palm Sunday with is celebration and its expectations and now we are at that day where Jesus gathered together with his friends in the upper room. I wonder what thoughts were going through their minds as they prepared to come together to share a meal with the ones that they loved? I wonder what hopes and dreams they had going forward? I am sure that there must have been some, for they were following the one who would change the world. I have been thinking a lot today about dreams. So I am going to take you all on a little audio and visual journey with me as we think about what our dreams might actually be at this time in our lives.

First stop along our journey is to click the following link to a video (gratefully brought to my attention by Sylvia W.) of a daughter and father singing “The Prayer”

Now I would like you to see the following pictures of Spring in The Netherlands, as the tulips come into bloom showing the beauty of God’s creation even in the midst of these challenging times. As a quote from Pablo Neruda tells us “You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep Spring from coming.” So at this time I want to inspire you with the these pictures to think about the beauty of the world around us and from there what your dreams might be……

Lastly I would like you all to listen once again to the beautiful voices of the daughter and father, singing one of my favourite songs (yes, this is my own personal indulgence…lol) “A Million Dreams” from the movie The Greatest Showman. There are two lines that speak deeply right now “We can live in a world that we design…A million dreams are keeping me awake….A million dreams for the world we’re going to make.” As you listen to this I invite you to think about what your dreams are for the world when we emerge from this time.

Finally there is one last thing that I ask you to think about. There is one last line of this song that I would like to bring forward, “share your dreams with me.” So, I invite you to share your dreams for the future with another, if you are so inclined and if you would like to share your dreams with me, I would love to hear your dreams for the world.

Continue to be dreamers in a world that is challenging, just as those who gathered this evening with Christ had their own dreams for the future of their lives and the world.

Peace and love to you all.
